Disappointing Products

In the last few months, I’ve come across my fair share of crappy products – here are the highlights…

I will start with my unpopular opinion about two cult NARS products. You might remember that I managed to get my hands on the NARS special edition Birchbox a while ago – full post here. This gave me the great opportunity to try a bunch of popular products by the brand. Let me start by saying I love NARS’s aesthetics, their packaging and general image; however, some of their products didn’t live up to the high expectations.

NARS Orgasm blush is great and would suit a lot of people for sure but it’s so, so shimmery! And we’re talking big, fat glitter particles here, not some finely milled glow. The thing is, this awesome, universal blush colour is not news, many brands do very similar shades without giving you that glitter ball effect – starting from MAC to Bourjois. You can save your money with this one.

Still on the NARS train, the Audacious mascara is another piece a lot of people have raved about. WHY? With a mascara, it’s all about the wand and this one is useless. I have always known I prefer fibre bristles but this plastic nastiness doesn’t do anything for me. My lashes look clumpy and just … sad. It’s a no from me.

The Glowing Complexion Kit

I need to rebel against myself. I need to do what I most fear.
- Chuck Palahniuk

Recently, I have been obsessed with naturally glowing skin, subtly enhanced by a good highlighter. I would say - add some glow to tanned skin and you’ve got yourself complexion to die for #quoteoftheday. I have been carefully putting together my personal glow kit and given that I’m very happy with the results, it’s time I shared it with you.

I’ll start with Clinique’s Moisture Surge Tinted Moisturiser (shade #02). I saw this on a friend’s face and was amazed by how flawless and dewy her skin looked. Mind you, this is the lady with the most sensitive skin in the history of human kind (love you!) so seeing that she was using it and being more than happy with the great results made me want to desperately try it. So I did. I have to admit that before I went on holiday, this was a tad too orange for me. I tend to have a more yellow/ grey-ish sunless skintone and the moisturiser sat a bit strange on my skin. After some tan though, we became a definite match. Even though it’s a tinted moisturiser, it still has good light to medium coverage, ideal for my taste. The important thing here is the finish – it gives a lovely natural, glowy complexion.

The Life Lately List

Everything has changed and yet, I am more me than I’ve ever been.
— Iain Thomas, I Wrote This For You
A berry mojito at Sky Garden.

Hello, hello.
I sat down to do one of the "Life Lately" posts only because I think it's fair to have a catch-up after I've been incognito for a while. Sorry if it's not the type of thing you'd read (I have prepared something a tad more exciting for you, that will be up on Tuesday).

Loving

Glowy, dewy skin. I have been all over that look recently. I admit it's a very fine line between sweaty face and Jennifer Lopez face BUT I believe I have mastered it more or less and will share what I've achieved in the upcoming post.

I have also started boxing! It's something that I've always wanted to do, long before Gigi Hadid and Co. made it mainstream. It's pretty cool and has gradually become more exhausting. Good gains. I recommend.

Hating

I went to Italy for my birthday and it was lovely (well, most of it at least). I even got to go to the beach and got sunburnt! That's not the bit that I hated... it's actually the fact that I am back in London and the next time I see a beach will probably be in a couple of months.. So yeah, I am considering moving, any suggestions? Around the Equator preferably.

Craving

I have been a granola eater for quite a while now and I have tried many brands and flavours but the best one yet is definitely Rude Health Coconut & Chia. At one point I had four boxes of this, just in case. They sell it in Waitrose too for about £4 and sometimes it's discounted to 3 quid (that's when the stash is filled!) It's brilliant with yogurt and fruit of choice and that's all I've been eating (once I had it for dinner too...sorry, definitely not sorry)

Listening to

Can I say Lemonade without being a complete cliche? I love Hold up and Don't hurt yourself
Mr. Zayn Malik also has some tunes - check out Borderz and She. Gosh, my taste in music seems very mainstream but there you go... next time I'll improve, promise.

Reading

Still Bulgarian Literature on loop. Currently reading some stories about immigration/ travelling/ being a citizen of the world/ belonging to one particular place. It definitely hits home (pun intended) and has been helping me figure out some things about myself and what I want in life. If you're lucky enough to speak the language check it out here.
