My musings on two Kat von D must-haves

“I would die for you. But I won't live for you.”
― Stephen Chbosky, The Perks of Being a Wallflower

We're talking about the Kat von D Shade & Light Eye Palette and Everlasting Liquid Lipstick (in Lolita, of course). When I saw that Sephora had a Kat von D beauty counter in Madrid, my heart skipped a beat and I knew I was buying at least those two beauties.

I will start with the easier of the two - the everlasting lipstick. I am sure you have read and heard a lot about this - a long-wear liquid matte formula with a great range of colours to choose from. Let me tell you.. all the praise for those lipsticks is well deserved. I have tried my fair share of matte lippies and this one is perfect - no fuss, stays on the lips for ages and fades out like a fairy tale. You can reapply as many times as you need and it looks awesome. I have experienced a lot of patchiness with matte lipsticks but not this one. The hefty price of 20 was justified. As for Lolita - it's probably one of the most wearable of all but still has Kat's feeling - it's not pink at all and gives a gorgeous muted tone to the lips.

Now... about the Shade & Light eye palette. I was torn between this and the Monarch palettes but decided to get this one as it had been on my list for too long.

I will start by saying this palette is not for makeup newbies. It's all matte so obviously a bit more tricky to apply, it's not your average shimmer, which you can slather all over the eyelids and be good to go. No, no, this requires priming and applying and blending till the end of time. The shades are very pigmented but also very powdery and dusty so no foundation or concealer before you've done your eye makeup. I will be completely honest and admit that my first few attempts to do my makeup with solely this palette were a disaster - I looked as if someone had been persistently punching me in the eyes.

So I have taken my time and perfected my Kat von D looks. I still have a lot to learn, thank God for the Internet. It's a gorgeous palette, no freakin' doubt about it. It's just not your ideal everyday combo of colours. Yes, you can create a number of looks with it but this matte awesomeness requires time and a steady hand. I simply don't use it every day - it's more of a special occasion, I-have-an-hour-to-do-my-makeup type of thing, which is a shame.

Put it on a scale and see how much you would be using it - because for €45 you can probably invest in something that will be used in action all.the.time.

So who knows, maybe soon I will feel confident enough and show you my favourite looks I create with this baby. Till then stay tuned because.. I've been shopping and it's been bad.

Thanks for reading guys, stay tuned.
