Madrid Diaries

“The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.”

Hello, hello.

I went to Madrid last weekend and thought I'd write a quick recap of things to do and places to visit.
Let me start by saying that Madrid is a beautiful city with plenty of sights to see...

Hotel:

We stayed at NH Madrid Nacional which is located near the Atocha Central Station and 5 minutes walk to Prado museum and the Botanical Garden. I recommend the hotel - excellent location and great rooms.

Places to go:

Museo del Prado, Museo Reina Sofia, Santa Ana square, Royal Palace of Madrid, Plaza del Sol, Mercado de San Miguel (photo below), Plaza de Espana, the Botanical Garden (right by Prado), Buen Retiro Park, Plaza Mayor etc. All main sights are absolutely worth it. We also went to the zoo but that was not as exciting as we expected. If you want to see the two most awesome creatures there (the penguins and the pandas, obviously) see below.

Bars and Food:

Definitely visit Circulo de Bellas Artes - it a rooftop bar (the building is a functioning theatre) with a great view, we had the best chill out time with a glass of white wine there. A local recommended the Malasana neigbourhood for restaurants and bars - La Mucca and La Pescaderia were two of the preferred places, where you can eat and get a good cocktail.

Shopping:

I should never EVER be allowed into a Sephora again. They had Kat von D in stock... enough said (expect reviews soon). The chain shops were pretty much everywhere but I was definitely not complaining - it was cheaper than London and had a good variety of brands - go to the Serrano area.

This is it, short and sweet. If you have any questions, I am always happy to answer.
Explore the world, people! It's big and colourful...

Thanks for reading and stay tuned.
